Description

The successful incumbent will manage, provide leadership and guidance in the implementation of plans to provide the plant with a comprehensive and professional Occupational Health and Safety System, ensuring compliance to Safety systems, standards and work practices to achieve targets set for the VPO Safety Pillar, Safety KPI’s and to take the strategic lead for Environmental management in the brewery and ensure environment targets are achieved. Also, to lead related site environment initiatives, ensuring Corporate Governance and integrity and adherence to all the relevant Environmental Standards and Legislation​.

Key Outputs and Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring compliance to the applicable Occupational Health & Safety Act via VPO Safety and Environmental pillars​
  • Accountable for the management and implementation of the Safety VPO Pillar in the plant and associated wet depot / warehouse​
  • Monitor and analyze leading Safety KPI’s and implement interventions to improve​
  • Create awareness of occupational safety and the VPO Safety & Environmental ​programme
  • Conduct audits and reviews of the site related to the VPO Safety/Environmental Pillar and legal compliance​
  • Maintain documentation such as SOP’s, as well as maintenance of manuals, policies and procedures as related to safety​
  • Identify safety and legal training needs, arrange and co-ordinate​
  • Ensure induction of both employees and contractors take place in accordance with standards​
  • Manage Safety related Capex portfolio and ZBB of the Safety team​
  • Ensure the application of safety standards to Capex projects and their safe execution ​
  • Drive closure of investigations, safety gaps and legal compliance in the plant​
  • Monitor and investigate selected insurance claims in liaison with the Corporate Risk Director​
  • Ensure the site is adequately secured and manage the contracted security provider​
  • Manage the Safety team and ensure people practices are maintained​
  • Support the Environmental compliance program where required​
  • Maintain safe healthy and risk free working environment​
  • Ensure manufacturing systems and instrumentation integrity ​
  • Manage financial performance of the plant as regards Safety and Environment ​
  • Provides leadership in the area of the application of quality principles and techniques across the environmental chain.​
  • Support and coach team members, SKAP Assessments for team members conducted​
  • Develop Safety/Environmental procedures and systems for approval and subsequent implementation. ​
  • Develop and manage the plant Stakeholders including dealing with Local Authorities
  • Ensure safety standards are adhered to in the environment department​
  • Develop monitors and controls the Environmental department
  • Conduct audits, interpret results and disseminates information to ensure operational efficiency
  • Sets and manages department costs within budget constraints

Qualifications

  • Min – Bachelors Degrees in Environmental Scientist/Occupational Health & Safety, Engineer (Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical) qualification or Environmental science or equivalent qualification​
  • 5 years experience in a Brewery with exposure to VPO, Safety and Engineering fields
  • 5 years work experience related to process engineering, water treatment, effluent treatment, environmental auditing, environmental legislation​
  • A motivated individual with high levels of resilience and the ability to operate in a high-pressure environment​
  • Strong planning & financial management skills ​
  • Highly developed analytical skills with excellent problem-solving capability ​
  • Excellent knowledge of industrial safety rules and regulations​
  • Strong technical skills in identify safety and operational non-compliance​
  • Experience in conducting investigations into safety incident, identifying root causes and developing preventative and corrective actions [Incident Investigator]​
  • Thorough understanding of ABInBev Safety, Health & Environmental Management Systems (VPO) ISO
  • Knowledge and experience with the VPO Safety &  Environment pillar is advantageous​
  • Experience in working in an industrial or FMCG environment is advantageous​
  • Excellent presentation, report drafting, and problem-solving skills​
  • Experience in coaching, training and guiding teams​
  • Ideal candidate would have experience in Voyager Plant Optimization​
  • Strong interpersonal skills with track record of managing people and relationships to obtain desired results​
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality is non-negotiable
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to interact and influence at all levels of the organization
